The Dads are still going strong!
If you guys didn't go to the show last Friday then you missed the funeral of Dave Garrison. If you aren't a participant in the "Dad's Lore" that is the character I play in our continued Dad stories.
I'm excited for the guys to keep crushing and for what they will do in January 2025. We renewed our performance contract with the incredible Chaos Bloom Theater.
In the meantime, to fill that Dad-sized hole in your calendar in December. We are dropping our first recorded special on the Dad Comedy YouTube channel for you guys to watch in December. We're proud of the show and we think you guys are going to love it. It was recorded at Aurora's Vintage Theater in 2023. We pride ourselves on crafting new sketches every month and doing so with our ethos of low production and no money. I would say I'm extremely passionate about being able to do mostly tech-free shows wherever and whenever. I think that's one of the best parts about our group. We'll play at a house party or a theater. We love imaginative sketch comedy and storytelling that makes audiences feel like, "Hey I can do that too". There's no wires or explosions in our act . . . yet.
If you weren't aware, I relocated from my home in Denver to Bangkok, Thailand.
Essentially just a drive across town . . . to the airport.
I am excited to grow with my wife out here and live life in a bit of a different direction. I've been a comedian and performer for a decade in the States. I've had tremendous experiences but also realized I love traveling maybe more or as much as producing monthly comedy shows.
I've been talking about changes on my podcast and there's been a ton of reflection and travel this year that spurned on this move. I think the most was perhaps the pandemic four years ago and the realization that I couldn't go anywhere. It's amazing what you start to value when you can't do it as easily. I met my wife during that time and many of our values aligned in no small way I have also grown with her as well as individually. Since then I've been to multiple countries with my wife and have been able to do comedy in different places!
I love the work I have done with The Dads since 2018. It all started with asking my friends Sam Butler and Jack Anderson to wear New Balance Shoes and riff on improvisational structures from the perspective of old Boomers. Fast forward to late 2022 and we add the dynamic Ben Hilzer to the group. We started just making fun of our Boomer Dads and it's matured as we have matured as people.
I've spent so much time with these guys they're less friends and more like extra brothers. While I won't be performing live with them anytime soon and I have no indiscernible plans of returning stateside, I will be doing some creative things with The Dads. I'm excited to focus my energy on writing sketches and producing our upcoming audio concept projects.
I am excited to share our first sketch comedy special and also announce that in 2025 we are launching some audio adventures. We have an episodic narrative podcast coming. We also have a follow-up to our 2021 concept comedy album Good Kids Daad City. The Dads will continue to make stuff the rest of our lives and it has always been a constantly evolving thing. I feel like it's a natural evolution in my life to take a step back from the group, focus on family and traveling, and pursue some creative works I've been neglecting. I know that I'm proud of what we have accomplished as a group but I know that Sam, Jack, and Ben will continue to entertain you every month in Denver. It's one of the most affordable and fun nights of sketch comedy you can see. If you aren't sure watch our special Daddy Road on December 15th and get a glimpse into how funny these guys are. I think it's one of my favorite projects I've been a part of. Thanks for reading guys.
Sincerely,
Gary
